More nursery ideas
I’ve been working out color schemes and furniture arrangements in Google Sketchup. I think I’ve finally settled on a light, bright green for the walls with some brown and a few splashes of pink. I’m considering Benjamin Moore’s “apple green,” “fresh cut grass” and “limelight.” I realize the art display is a bit excessive, but it’s just a grouping I downloaded from the Sketchup library (they’re IKEA frames). Our actual crib is IKEA’s “Gulliver,” not “Hensvik” as shown in these images. The bedding is the Dots pattern from Dwell. We’ve already bought the brown leather-upholstered Poang chair and footstool from IKEA, as well as the Malm 3-drawer dresser.

Who am I?
From experience with painting with apple greens, greens will appear much brighter after you paint them then what’s on the paint chip or even what’s shown here. I think the color bounces off the other walls and gets really bright. I painted a bedroom both “wales green” and “folk art” by Benjamin Moore. The folk art was a little dull but the wales green ended up way too bright. I was hoping one day to try out Laura Ashley’s “apple.” It looks duller than wales green but brighter than folk art. I’m still looking for that perfect apple green. Here’s the link to my flickr set if you want to see those colors.

Thank you so much for the advice, Lori. I’m struggling with my choice … normally I wouldn’t be attracted to such fluorescent colors, but the nursery room is very dark and gets little natural light even though there are 2 windows - that part of the house is surrounded by tall pine trees. Thanks for your link - your bedroom is beautiful. I really like the way the color turned out on your walls. I’ll consider Wales Green for my nursery now!
For what it’s worth and to piggyback on Lori’s comment, I painted my daughter’s nursery in our last home using all four colors on the Benjamin Moore Wales Green paint chip.

And I hate to sound like a noodgy old mother but I’d be concerned with the artwork over the crib just because the baby will be standing and pulling it off before you know it. OK. Done with the mini-lecture.
Those nursery photos are adorable, jgsearls! I really love the stripes and your color scheme.
I’m inclined to go with an unusually bright color since the room is truly very dark, even when there’s bright sunlight outside.
Thanks for the comment about the frames - the arrangement in my Sketchup pictures isn’t really what I’m going to end up with. I think I’ll leave the crib in the center of the room and use the wall for furniture. But it’s good to be warned of these things - as a soon-to-be first time mom, I have so much to learn! :O
I really like the first photo and wall color.
I thought all the pictures on the walls were neat. lol You could screw through the pictures frames with black drywall screws or something like that. (If they are inexpensive frames anyways.) That way you could hang alot of art and NOT have to worry about your baby grabbing them. I see that done in restaurants all the time,…probably because they don’t want kids ripping them off the walls.
I love the colour scheme but I agree it won’t be long before baby is pulling those pictures right off the wall and from my experience our baby likes to look at blocks of colour and stripes over most pictures.
I love your google sketchup room…looks like a real photo!! Did you use sketchup or sketchup pro?
Greetings!
I was just curious as to how you got the Benjamin Moore colors into SketchUp. We’re going to be using SketchUp for some visualization work here at the University of Michigan Museum of Art - and are just getting started with it.
Any tips/hints would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks!

I took a screen shot (PRINT SCREEN key) of the color from Benjamin Moore’s website, pasted it into Photoshop to get the RGB values of my color, and then used the RGB values and created a swatch out of it in Sketchup.
Great!!.Thanks for share with us.
Cheers,
